So Gleeful

You’d think that I’d run out of room in my tiny brain for obsessions, what with the Twilight thing, the Rob thing, and the Rob HandPorn thing. But no, I still have room for one more thing…

I’m really not sure how this happened to me. I saw three million promos for it during the last season of American Idol, and I thought, “Eh, I guess I’ll watch it.”

And, just like the cafeteria scene in Twilight, I watched the cast rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing,” and that was all she wrote.

There are several reasons I’m completely obsessed with Glee:

The music ROCKS! The mix of classic rock (like Queen’s “Somebody to Love”), contemporary tunes (like “Gold Digger” by Kayne West), and Broadway standards (like “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret) is perfect. And, if you can’t get enough in the episode, FULL versions of the songs are available on iTunes. Yes, I’m making weekly iTunes purchases, so shoot me.

Two words for the producers, though: KURT SOLO.

The storyline is wonderful; it reminds me of a Christopher Guest movie. There’s comedy and drama and lots of reminders why high school sucked ass. The best scene so far: Kurt coming out of the closet to his father. It was a well-acted, beautiful moment that has been the dramatic highlight of the season so far.  Chris Colfer needs an Emmy. Seriously.

Speaking of Christopher Guest movies, I ❤ Jane Lynch HARD. Really, do I have to explain any more than that? She’s incredible as the evil cheerleading coach, and she has some of the best lines in the show:

“You think this is hard? Try waterboarding. That’s hard!”

“Every time I try to destroy that club, it comes back strong than some sexually ambiguous horror movie villain.”

“Caning works! And I think it’s about time we did a little more of it right here… yes, we cane!”

If she doesn’t get an Emmy, it will be a travesty.

Glee has had great guest stars this season. Josh Groban played himself. Well, a version of himself that’s partial to blousy alcoholics. Kristin Chenoweth, however, was EPIC, and I loved her duet on “Maybe This Time” with Lea Michele (Rachel). If you loved Kristin on Pushing Daisies (oh, how I miss that show *weeping*), you’ll love her guest spot. I think it will earn her another Emmy next year.

The entire cast of Glee is wonderful! There are Broadway veterans: Matthew Morrison (Will), who was nominated for Tony and Drama Desk awards; Lea Michele (Rachel), who was also nominated for a Drama Desk award; and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), who was in the revival of The King and I. (BTW, Kristin Chenoweth? She’s won both.) There are movie and TV veterans: the aforementioned Jane Lynch; Jayma Mays (Emma), who was on Heroes as Hiro’s ill-fated Texas love interest; Patrick Gallagher (Tanaka), who plays Chow on True Blood (yeah, I know!); and Jessalyn Gilsig (Terri), who was on Nip/Tuck and Heroes (she played Claire’s mother). There’s even one former boyband member – Kevin McHale (Artie) was in NLT (who?!). My favorite Glee cast members? Cory Monteith (Finn), Chris Colfer (Kurt), and Amber Riley (Mercedes) were all basically unknown to U.S. TV audiences before Glee, as were Mark Salling (Puck) and Dianna Agron (Quinn). Just awesome, truly.

Okay, damn it, I’ll admit it: I LOVE Finn. Poor cute, big, dumb Finn. He reminds me of my high school boyfriend, except smarter. (Yes, I know, how sad is that?) If he doesn’t end up with Rachel, it will be a damn shame!

So, if you’re not doing anything on Wednesday nights, come tweet your favorite Glee lines with FireCrotch and me! It drives Susie nuts! (I’m sorry Susie, I just can’t contain myself.)

While I continue to loop the Glee cast music on my iPod, I leave you with my favorite performance (which just barely beat out the clip above) of the season so far:

  1. Jane Lynch is very funny. She was also very good in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story. I laugh every time I see her.

  2. Everytime I see Jane Lynch, all I can think about is the movie Role Models “You wanna know what I ate for breatfast? Cocaine!”

  3. A girl after my own heart! I love Glee. I just told the kids they had to be in bed before it starts so I watch with no distractions. Its not the same love I have for Twilight and Rob, but its still good.

  9. LOL!! Oh I’m going to get lynched by all you little Glee-ions out there, aren’t I? HEHE! I can’t watch Glee. My attention span is too short. Now, I can watch CARTOONS that sing and dance but that’s really about it 🙂 I can’t even watch American Idol or So, You think You can Dance or Dancing with the Stars, or America’s Got Talent.

What the hell do you watch, then, GRETA?

    *bows head in shame

    Anything but Musical tv 😉

I tried to watch GLEE! I really did. I lasted a whole 20 minutes and had to walk away. The singing terrorfied me lol!!

It made me think that I might get attacked by WEST SIDE STORY tra la las if I went out to get my mail. I don’t want that lol.

So, GLEE’S not for me… but when we start Blogging about the ROomMates on Big Brother I promise to have a bigger smile on my face.

I’m such a sucker for bad reality tv 😉 Rock of Love anyone? THey sing right? HAHAHAHA!!!

  10. LOVED LOVED LOVED your post! And you already know I love Glee. I have to DVR them and watch later (because I want to watch when kids are leaving me alone) or else I would totes join your twitter quoting! Sue makes me pee my pants! And I love me some Puck!

If I had more time…and no life…I would totally start a Glee blog…*sigh*

  11. I too am obsessed with Glee and last nights episode push me into emotions that I didn’t think I would experience with a comedy. First I have to admit when Kurt came out of the closet. I did actually cry a little because it breaks my heart that there are RL teens in this situation. Many great lines from Jane and fuck don’t you remember her from 40 Year Old Virgin. She’s classic. Now onto my hate emotion. I hate Will’s wife. I hate her sister and now I can’t stand the site of her. Arghh. This whole fake baby thing is just plain evil. Anyways good acting and casting and I’m hooked too girlfriend!

  12. I do, I love it. It *almost* makes me want to direct show choir again. Ok, maybe not…….
