Pissed off, frustrated, and rec’ing fanfic

Okay, so here we are, two weeks into NaNoWriMo. And I haven’t even written 3000 words of my NaNo story.

Why? Because Aiden and Callie refuse to talk to me. They sit in the corner like two bumps on a log whispering to each other, but they won’t talk to me…you know, the fucking author! They do give me the finger every so often, so at least they’re acknowledging my existence.

And I’ve tried, really I have. But I don’t know how much longer I can sit and stare at the same Google Doc and not type.

It’s starting to piss me off.

But, you know who is talking to me?

Alice.

Yeah, evil fucking pixie Alice. I LOVE Alice. I love Ashley Greene, too, but that’s a topic for another post.

Still, except for a voice on the phone in Breathe Me and a brief cameo in my Jasper o/s, I don’t write Alice. Why, all of the sudden, is Alice is in my head, demanding that I write a five chapter story for her?!

It’s not like I haven’t been writing. In addition to my 2,800 words of my NaNo story, I’ve written five Breathe Me chapters totaling approximately 15,000 words and 900 words of Alice’s story. I’m going to begin work on my next In The Blood chapter this weekend.

Still, Aiden and Callie are quiet.

It’s all very frustrating.

So, what do I do when I have writer’s block? That’s right, I read stories by people who apparently don’t have writers block. Here’s a few I’d like to recommend:

– I think that lambcullen is my new favorite author. I spent way too much time at work catching up on her story Tides, and then I discovered her new story Tilt. I love Tides, but I LOVE Tilt. You really should read them both.

In Tides, Bella returns to the house she’s inherited from her grandfather and finds her childhood friend Edward living there. She doesn’t know it, but Edward’s been waiting for her…for a long time.

In Tilt, Bella and Edward are both wonderfully awkward and, against their initial wishes, thrown together by a racy Internet personal ad. It’s only three chapters in, and I’m already hooked.

The Best Man by Bratty-Vamp is a wonderful completed story. In this story, Bella visits home during a college summer break to find out her best friend Jasper is getting married. Jasper, however, can’t decide if Bella or his older brother Edward should be his best man, and he decides a competition is in order. Oh, did I mention that Bella’s loved Edward from afar since she was a kid? Let me warn you: when I thought knew what was going on, something came out of a completely different direction and thwacked me upside the head. I really seriously love this story.

Red Strings of Fate is an in-progress story by unicornhime told through text messages, emails, and forum posts. Edward meets the girl of his dreams (Bella…of course), but he doesn’t know how to woo her. He looks to a message board to get advice on how to win Bella’s heart. I seriously laughed so hard I cried. The way it’s told is so clever. And, believe it or not, it’s the first T-rated story I’ve ever rec’d.

The Kübler Ross Model by jadedandboring initially screamed out to me because I am the somewhat proud owner of a completely useless psychology degree. Then I read the first chapter. It is a beautiful, touching story, and I can’t begin to explain how much I love it. Bella has lost the love of her life, and Edward is in a failing relationship. What happens as they begin to find themselves drawn together? The story, currently at 6 chapters, is nearing its end. So, if you’re one that waits for a story to complete, keep your eye on this one.

– Oh, and all you people who encouraged me to re-read the first chapter of Clipped Wings and Inked Armor after getting some sleep (the first time I read it, I just couldn’t get into it), thank you! I love the story, and I drop everything now to read the new chapters.

Now, there are some more stories by my Twitter BFFs that I want to recommend, but I’m saving those for their very own post next week. I think I’ve given you enough to work with for now 🙂

(P.S. Keep an eye out for a new post this weekend about my very first giveaway!)

  1. Thank you so much, I love getting new recs for fanfic. And I am so glad you gave CW & IA another chance. It is one of my absolute favorites, top two!

  2. I love CW&IA! I need to look into the rest of these. Thanks for the recs. Bummer about the Nano story…I was really liking it.

  3. I don’t know how you find time to write so much AND read! I can barely keep up with my updates!

But i’ll put these on my list. 🙂

  4. Yay! I’m glad you gave CW&IA another try. And as if I didn’t already have way too much fic to read, I gotta check out Tides and Tilt!

  5. I suckingly understand.. The cartoon is cute though! It took me forever to write my last chapter because Alice just wouldn’t flipping talk. But once she did she didn’t shut up.. Good luck sweets.. Atleast you are writing something…. Right?

  6. Great rec’s, Fragile. I’ve had Lambcullen’s & the Best Man on my list for ages. Glad to know they should stay there. So sorry to hear your characters aren’t piping up for you. Maybe looking at some Robporn would help? Hang in there…
    xo

  7. I can see that CW&IA is going to be like WA. I fought it and fought it and then when I finally gave in, it was a frenzied reading orgy. I think I’ll wait until December. 🙂 I love Betti’s button for it too!

BTW, seriously, tell Callie and Aiden that I’m gonna punch their junk if they don’t start talking! I REALLY want to know what happens next!!!!!

  8. I’ve been reading Lambcullen’s Tides since the beginning. I love that story, it really draws you in. I’m not doing much better on my NaNoWriMo. I just got up to 9179 words today. I’ve taken about 5 days off from writing. There are some days after work where I just can’t get into it. I don’t have any real time at home since I automatically go from chemistry work to being mom, then to bed to start all over again. If I get 25,000 words done, I’ll be happy. At least you’ve been productive with your other projects.

  9. Good Gravy!! How do you have any eye sight left? Staring at that flickering compy screen in all it’s sparkly dazzled Hawtness… Oh… I see. I understand. So, Do you ever slip you lappy into bed with you and light candles for it, pour it a glass of wine then…. What? What do you mean I’m going to far? What do you mean that;s a little personal? I’m just askin lol. So, Cali and Aiden aren’t yappin. Hmmm.. want me to bring out the whips and make em talk? I seriously have no clue how you do it. I would be making Aiden be all sparkles and your Bella be all country. See… it just wouldn’t work. I’d fook it up. BUT YOU!! OMG!! You can keep up w/ it!! OH!! And what is dear Alice saying to you? Is she whipering? Or is she screaming? Is she stomping her foot and becoming impatient because Calie and Aiden are trying to steal the spotlight? Well, I say if Cali and Aiden don’t shape up then maybe you should just dump em. I mean why not? IT wouldn’t be a fail. If they won’t play nice then punish them. Wow!! Now I just have too many dang things to read. I guess i need to go out and buy some wine coolers for my Pc and get a crack a lackin.

  10. Let’s see it from the bright side: You have characters talking to you! There was Bella, Edward, Mick, Beth and now Alice ? I mean Alice, what does she tell you ??

You wrote all those BM chapters, will write the next ITB chapter (I totally appreciate that) and some Alice things.

    Helllo ? Be proud!

I know you all want to give your very best for NaNoWriMo but you are all doing so great and it still needs to be fun. I don’t know the rules but at least you are writing on your other stories. And hear of your heart when Cali and Aiden want to be rather alone then talking to you, then so be it! If on the other site Bella or Alice talks to you, go for it!

  11. Some good reccs right when I needed them! Thanxalot!!
Lol – I’m on Tides and Tilt simultaneously and love love love them. If your other reccs are only half as good, visiting your blog was truly rewarding once again :))

  12. Thank you so much for recing KRM! I’m absolutely astonished.

  13. […] a couple of weeks ago when I said Alice keeps talking to me? She’s been quite the talkative girl, and I’m posting the first chapter of her story on […]
